Some in the Twins system believe Pino could be the next Oswaldo Sosa, though he'll have a hard time coming in under the radar as Sosa did. Pino began the 2006 season in middle relief in low Class A but finished winning six of seven starts. Despite his inexperience, he also was pitching well in the Venezuelan League. Pino lacks physical maturity and is still filling out his 6-foot-3 frame, so his stuff is fringy or even a shade below. His fastball sits at 86- 88 mph and has late run and sink. He throws two variations of both his curveball and slider, showing excellent feel for when to throw them harder and when to take something off. He can use either as a strikeout pitch. His best asset is his command of his overall repertoire, which is among the best in the organization. While Pino has shown he can start, he's also shown a resilient arm prized in relievers and has the same quality stuff even in back-to-back outings. With a good spring, Pino could jump to Double-A for 2007.
