Carey is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound shortstop who hit the ground running with Nebraska as a freshman in 2023 and slashed .271/.343/.391 while handling third base. He moved from the hot corner to shortstop in 2024 and has added a tick more power but has not had quite the breakout that was expected of him after a strong fall. He slashed .264/.348/.436 through his first 36 games and expanded the zone too frequently and also has a bit too much swing-and-miss against spin. He is a solid defender who gets rid of the ball quickly and has a strong arm.
