School: Pierce County HS, Blackshear, Ga.
Commit/Drafted: Georgia Tech
Age at Draft: 19.0
Royer is a lanky and projectable 6-foot-6, 195-pound righthander who attacks hitters with a funky delivery that features some moving parts and recoil, but has a pitch mix with plenty of movement. He throws a fastball in the low 90s and has been up to 94-95 at peak velocity with plenty of arm-side life and sinking action. He also has a breaking ball that has ticked up from the mid 70s to around 80 mph that fluctuates in shape between a slider and curve and needs more consistency. He will mix in a changeup with solid arm speed but needs to refine his control and command of all his pitches. Royer is athletic and has made some solid improvements with the direction of his delivery over the last two years, but scouts are still banking on a lot of projection for him to get to his peak stuff and form. He’s committed to Georgia Tech.
