Schubert is in the process of legally changing his last name from the current McAdams. By any name, he's one of the toolsier preps hitters in Georgia, a high-risk, high-reward player with significant upside. He's 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, and he runs well for his size, a tick above-average now, though he will wind up a fringy or below-average runner as he fills out. Otherwise, it's not hard to project on Schubert, a righthanded hitter who flashes plus raw power when he makes consistent contact. He'll likely wind up on a corner, and his strong arm makes right field a logical future location. Teams that believe in Schubert's bat have to believe he'll refine a raw approach at the plate, relying in part on his impressive batting-practice displays. He committed late to High Point, and scouts consider him signable, which may get him to get picked in the first two rounds even though the scouting consensus appears to peg him as a third- to fifth-round talent.

From 2002-07, the Indians' drafts were extremely college-heavy. They have adjusted their philosophy in recent years, taking more high school players earlier in the draft and rolling the dice on higher-risk prep talent in later rounds as well. Schubert falls into the latter category as a physical, toolsy player who signed for $250,000 as a 2012 seventh-round pick. He's still raw on the diamond and might never make it out of Class A, but the raw tools are there. He has a strong, projectable body and good bat speed. He puts on a show in batting practice with his plus raw power. He's going to have to make a lot of adjustments at the plate to tap into it, however, as his approach is unrefined and he swings and misses frequently. Schubert's speed is a tick above-average, though with his size he'll probably slow to below-average down the road. With his above-average arm, right field is a good fit for him. Give how unpolished Schubert is right now, he probably won't start 2013 with a full-season club and instead will head to short-season Mahoning Valley.
