Hoag is a projectable 6-foot-4, 205-pound lefthander with solid rhythm and tempo on the mound, a loose arm and good feel for a solid slider. He mostly sits in the 89-91 mph range and has touched 92-93, but it’s easy to see him adding more velocity as he adds strength. He’s done a nice job manipulating the shape of a low-80s slider that could become an above-average pitch and he’s also flashed a low-80s changeup, though that pitch is a distinct third offering at the moment. He’s a Florida State commit who could probably use a bit more polish, command and strength, but there are ingredients to get excited about here.
