Young was ranked the No. 1 high school player by Baseball America at the start of the season, but has been bumped to No. 2. Young is very physical, routinely compared by scouts to San Francisco’s Kevin Mitchell. He’s been primarily a third baseman or shortstop in a record-breaking career, but scouts say ideally he’s suited for left field. Led by Young, southern California has seven or eight high school prospects who could crack the first round. Scouts agree it’s the most lucrative area of the country.
