Peralta was released by the Athletics after one season as an infielder in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. Scooped up by the Angels eight months later, his next stint in the DSL came as a pitcher and was more successful. He took a step back with a rough U.S. debut in 2000, then recovered and progressed all the way from low Class A to Double- A last year. The diminutive righty can run his fastball up to 95 mph. He also brings a hard slider and a changeup from a quick-armed, three-quarters delivery. His command tailed off during his brief stint in Arkansas but hadn't been a problem previously. Peralta's makeup is off the charts and he's determined to reach the majors. He worked on tightening the rotation of his slider in the Dominican this winter, which should help him when he returns to Double-A.
