Another in the roll call of players who came over in trades in 2000, Lunar is a classic defense-first catcher. He looked like nothing better than a major league backup in the Braves organization, though the Orioles hope his offense can improve enough to make him a full-time player. He did show flashes after the trade, hitting safely in his first 12 games with Bowie and earning a taste of big league life in Baltimore. He remains a career .222 minor league hitter with 24 homers in seven seasons, however. His catch-and-throw skills are outstanding, and he has good durability and a feel for handling pitchers and calling games. His stint as Greg Maddux' personal catcher after Eddie Perez was injured attests to that. Lunar will get an opportunity to win a big league job this spring, but he'll probably go back to Triple-A to continue work on his stroke.
