A draft-eligible sophomore, Martin has been the Cowboys’ closer for two seasons now. His 2022 season was a mixture of standout moments and disappointing ones. He went 4-3, 4.75, but he also struck out 15 batters per nine innings and held opponents to a .226 average. He gave up a crucial grand slam in a regional loss to Arkansas, but followed it up by striking out 16 in 6.2 innings of relief the next day to beat Missouri State. While throwing 126 pitches the day after throwing 13 pitches in a relief outing will cause some concern, it also demonstrated Martin’s resilience. As a reliever, Martin sits 95-96 mph and can touch 97-98. He primarily works as a two-pitch (fastball/slider) reliever. His fastball has above-average carry up in the zone, which allows him to get above hitters’ bats. His fringe-average slider wasn’t effective this year (hitters hit .381/.458/.905 against it), but the building blocks are there for a useful pitch. It’s relatively hard (82-84 mph) with an average amount of depth. He misses his spots with it and can get punished when he leaves it over the heart of the plate. He has mixed in a fringy changeup which he’ll need to use much more if a pro team gives him a shot to start.

A tall, 6-foot-5 Oklahoma State signee, Martin has shown present velocity in the 90-94 mph range and the ability to spin a slurvy, high-70s curveball. He has present physicality, but some scouts worry he will end up as a reliever long-term thanks to his delivery and slow-twitch body.
