Track Record: The Mariners purchased McKay from the Royals during 2018 spring training to provide organizational depth. He provided much more than that by reaching Double-A Arkansas and then earning a spot in the Arizona Fall League all-star showcase.
Scouting Report: McKay profiles as a reliever, with his slightly above-average 92-95 mph fastball possessing both tail and a heavy sinking action. The gem of his arsenal is an 84-87 mph slider that projects to be a plus pitch with good depth. The key to his improvement was dropping his arm angle to a more comfortable three-quarters slot, allowing him to control the strike zone better.
The Future: McKay is targeted for Triple-A Tacoma in 2019 and has a middle reliever ceiling.
