  Track Record: Sugastey was part of Panama’s junior national team and signed with San Francisco in 2019 for a bonus of $525,000. He skipped the Dominican Summer League, reached Low-A quickly in 2022 and then spent all of 2023 at High-A Eugene. He was limited to just 63 games by injuries. It was the second straight year when Sugastey was limited to fewer than 100 games.
  
  Scouting Report: Sugastey has a blend of skills on both sides of the ball but little that necessarily stands out as a carrying tool. He does a decent job of making contact in the zone but chases far too frequently. Scouts also note that he struggles against fastballs with premium velocity. He doesn’t hit the ball particularly hard, either, with average (83.5 mph) and 90th percentile (99.2 mph) exit velocities that grade as below-average. Sugastey has slowed down a bit as he’s matured but still has the mobility to project as an above-average defender behind the dish with a plus throwing arm. He is a well below-average runner.
  
  The Future: After missing half the season, Sugastey will likely head back to High-A and split time at catcher with Onil Perez in 2024. He could become a second-division backup.

  Track Record: Sugastey starred for Panama's junior national team as an amateur and signed with the Giants for $525,000 as part of their 2019 international signing class. His pro debut was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, but he emerged in 2021 with an excellent season in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League and made the jump to Low-A San Jose in 2022. His season was limited to 84 games by a hamstring injury and his performance suffered, but he got additional reps in the Arizona Fall League at the end of the year and showed well.
  
  Scouting Report: Sugastey has excellent bat-to-ball skills and a knack for contact. He chases out of the zone a fair amount but is able to still make contact off the plate and rarely strikes out. Sugastey has yet to grow into power, but he should get stronger in his big frame, particularly in his upper half, and start making more impact on contact.   Scouting Report: Sugastey’s swing is short, quick and geared to hit line drives to both gaps. He showed the potential for above-average power as well, though he’ll need to add more strength to reach that ceiling. Sugastey’s overall offensive profile would be further amplified by getting the ball in the air more often. Defensively, Sugastey is very flexible behind the plate, sets good targets for his pitchers and does a good job receiving and framing, though he needs to work on his blocking skills. He has a strong arm and caught 30% of runners attempting to steal in the ACL. With further development, he could be a fringe-average defender.
