A graduate transfer from St. John’s, Antico had a productive season for Texas. He hit .273/.436/.489 with 10 home runs and 41 steals in 46 attempts. Antico has plus-plus speed and is a solid defender in center field as well. The lefthanded hitter was a solid performer at St. John’s as well and posted a .500 on-base percentage as a junior in 2019. A useful senior sign, Antico will have to move quickly. With five years of college experience, he’s 23 and is old for a player entering pro ball.

BA Grade/Risk: 40/High
Track Record: Antico played four seasons with St. John's before transferring to Texas for his final season of eligibility. He broke out in his lone season with the Longhorns, batting .273/.437/.489 with 10 home runs, 41 stolen bases and more walks than strikeouts. The Cardinals selected Antico as a senior sign in the eighth round and signed him for $20,000. Antico made his full-season debut in 2022 and quickly hit his way up to Double-A Springfield while showing the best speed in the organization. He finished the year with a system-high 67 stolen bases and was assigned to the Arizona Fall League after the season.
Scouting Report: Antico's game is centered around his explosiveness as a runner and at the plate. He is a fringe-average contact hitter with a discerning eye that rarely expands the zone, allowing him to draw walks and get on base to use his plus speed. Unlike most speedsters, Antico looks to elevate the ball to his pull-side and hits a lot of fly balls. He hits the ball at steep launch angles but doesn't have the strength to punish balls, leading to fringy power. Antico's speed translates to the outfield, where he covers a lot of ground in center to be an above-average defender. He has fringy arm strength.
The Future: While Antico will already be 25 on Opening Day, but he shows the traits to be a reserve outfielder who provides speed and occasional pop off the bench. He'll see Triple-A in 2023.
Scouting Grades: Hit: 45. Power: 45. Run: 60. Field: 55. Arm: 45.
