A Campbell commit, Mendoza pitched with a mid-80s fastball prior to this spring. He grabbed the attention of scouts with a strong start against fellow New Jersey prospect A.J. Candelario, when his fastball reached 93 mph. Mendoza has a strong, durable frame, but will need to work on his conditioning at the next level. His offspeed pitches are lacking at present, but he's a lefthander with some velocity, and he could be a solid developmental project for a pro team if he is willing to sign out of high school.
