Draft Prospects
Part of Washington's strong incoming recruiting class, Baird has a good body at a listed 6-foot-2, 185-pounds and made some noise at the Perfect Game All-American Classic last summer in San Diego. He's had a solid spring and could tempt a team in the first three rounds that believes in his bat. A prep shortstop who likely would play that position for Washington, Baird has 50s or 55s on the report, depending on the scout, with his speed, bat and arm earning average grades. Some scouts consider him to have stiffened a bit and doubt he's a true shortstop as a pro, putting more pressure on his bat. Others are in on the body's projection and his ability to stay in the middle infield. He had LASIK surgery this spring and his offense improved significantly as his vision did. His father played briefly in the NFL.
