Jared Poche will leave Louisiana State as one of the most successful pitchers in program history. Coming into the NCAA super regionals, he needed two wins to become the all-time winningest pitcher in the storied program's history and he's spent four years in LSU's weekend rotation. That came on the heels of an outstanding high school career as well. Poche's lack of a true plus pitch and his below-average 86-88 mph fastball velocity will cause him to slide in the draft, but his savvy, his ability to command his at times above-average curveball and a fringe-average changeup give him a chance to be a crafty pro pitcher.

Poche' has been part of LSU's weekend rotation for three consecutive seasons. With a 25-9, 3.02 career record, Poche' has a long track record of success for the Tigers, but his lack of velocity will keep him from being drafted too highly. Poche' sits 88-90 mph, touching a little higher. His downer curveball is an above-average pitch at its best as he's shown he can command it both in and out of the zone. His changeup is a playable fringe-average offering. Poche' has plenty of feel and profiles as a back-end starter at best.
Poche turned in one of the more dominant high school seasons in recent memory in Louisiana, going 11-0 and leading Luther High to its first state championship since 1975. He struck out 11 in a one-hit complete game for the title and added two hits of his own. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder doesn't offer much projection and may not need to, as his feel for pitching and present stuff are solid-average. His fastball sits in the 87-90 mph range, and he throws a lot of strikes from a clean delivery. He has a good idea of how to set up hitters with a curveball and changeup, both of which he commands. Poche could step right into a prominent role on the Louisiana State staff as a freshman, but there may be clubs willing to buy him out of school.
