There's nothing flashy about Hermelyn, but he has a well-rounded enough set of skills to project as a potential backup catcher. He has a simple swing that is relatively short to the ball. He's been productive, posting solid batting averages both at Oklahoma and last summer in the Cape Cod League. A below-average hitter with well below-average power and fringy receiving skills and arm, Hermelyn has played some first base and even a little bit of third base as well, but he doesn't profile at either spot. He doesn't have an exceptional upside but he could have a lengthy career because he doesn't have many glaring weaknesses either.
