Byrne is a physical catcher who is committed to Texas Christian. His swing is a bit unorthodox but he has some pull-side power. Evaluators have concerns about his body moving forward. While he's thrown well in the past, Byrne's arm hasnt' looked as great this spring and he'll need to clean up his actions behind the plate.

The lack of depth in this year’s college catching class has Byrne in the day two discussion. A 6-foot, 220-pound catcher and righthanded hitter, Byrne looks the part of a catcher in pro ball, though he was displaced at the position this spring and spent a lot of time as TCU’s designated hitter. He slashed .284/.341/.485 with 10 home runs, a 15.7% strikeout rate and a 6.5% walk rate with all-fields power and solid top-end exit velocities. Bryne is an aggressive hitter who will expand the zone and has struggled against secondary pitches, especially sliders. He has handled velocity well, and can run into plenty of home runs, but likely profiles as a power-over-hit bat. Byrne was a Cape Cod League all-star in his second stint on the circuit in 2022, but he did post a 26-to-9 strikeout-to-walk rate in his 30-game stint with Brewster. For a team that believes he can improve enough behind the plate to be an average catcher, he could be an interesting senior target. He does have solid arm strength and has blocked well in the past. -
