Rodriguez committed early to Arkansas and flew a bit under the scouting radar until last November, when he had a good showing at the Jesse Flores Memorial All-Star Game, a staple of Southern California scouting. He has fairly advanced catch-and-throw skills for a high school backstop, and scouts project him to be an average defender with an average or slightly better arm. He has a strong 5-foot-11, 190-pound frame and a compact righthanded swing, and his line-drive bat showed improvement this spring. Rodriguez is an aggressive hitter who could grow into average power down the road.
