Track Record: The Phillies signed Aldegheri out of Italy in 2019 as part of an international class that also included Curtis Mead, who was used in a trade to bring Cristopher Sanchez into the system. Aldegheri is light on experience thanks to the pandemic and injuries to his elbow, back and shoulder that have limited him to just 117 innings.
Scouting Report: Aldegheri doesn’t have the high-octane stuff of some of the other arms in the system, but he knows how to mix, match and locate. The lefty works with four- and two-seam fastballs in front of a five-pitch mix that is complemented by the standard offspeed array. The lefty’s fastball sits in the low 90s and has peaked at 95 with cutting and riding action through the zone. Aldegheri’s slider is his only average secondary, but both his curveball and changeup grade out as fringe-average. He sells the changeup well. Aldegheri does a nice job pounding the strike zone and lowered his walk rate in a small sample at High-A toward season’s end. Scouts like his overall command and feel to pitch despite not having a knockout weapon in his mix. They also note a much better body than in season’s past.
The Future: Aldegheri will likely reach Double-A for the first time in 2024. If healthy, he might fit as a No. 5 starter or a swingman. He was left unprotected but didn’t get picked in the Rule 5 draft.
