Draft Prospects
-
Extremely young for the class, Valero is a 6-foot-2, 186-pound shortstop who with current strength in a still-projectable frame. Scouts can dream on Valero's body and bat speed, but he has plenty of refinement to do on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Valero can put a charge in the ball, but he's a pull-heavy fastball only hitter who commits early and struggles to stay back on off-speed offerings. Defensively, he has average arm strength, but has struggled with his accuracy. His hands are decent, and good enough to give him a chance to stick at third base, but his footwork won't work in the middle of the infield and some scouts think he'll need to move to an outfield corner. Valero is committed to Oregon State.
