Drafted in the 7th round (225th overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2016 (signed for $150,000).

Gibbs made the move to junior college ball after spending two years at Indiana, including a redshirt year, without getting into a game. He put up an impressive regular season slash line of .396/.491/.597 in his first year at Central Arizona. Despite his gawdy offensive numbers, it will be Gibbs' defense that gets him drafted in the top 10 rounds if an organization deems him signable from his commitment to Southern California. Gibbs flashes a plus-plus arm and shows good receiving and blocking skills. The defense-first reputation comes because he doesn't square up balls and get enough leverage off his body with the swing, though some scouts are encouraged by his offensive progress. The 2016 season was his first real action since high school and he'll be 22 this year, which may be a factor in pushing him to start his pro career instead of heading off to USC.
