Drafted in the 4th round (127th overall) by the New York Yankees in 2018 (signed for $347,500).
View Draft Report
German has risen up draft boards this year by dominating. The Atlantic Sun has produced pitcher after pitcher, but few have posted a 1.36 ERA like German has this year. He has an easily plus fastball that sits 92-94 mph and touches 96 mph. His development as a pro will depend on improving the consistency of his slurvy breaking ball. It's at least an average pitch, but with a little more consistency, it could end up being above-average if he can tighten the shape of it. The curveball generally is more slurve than curve, but every now and then he tightens it up to a harder, 11-to-5 offering that flashes above-average. German has a strong frame and solid delivery with athleticism and good strikethrowing that could propel him into the fourth or fifth rounds.

Track Record: After a freshman season split between the rotation and the bullpen, German spent the next two years at North Florida as a stalwart starter. He was excellent as a sophomore before turning it up a notch in his junior year, when he went 8-3 with a 1.58 ERA that ranked fifth in Division I. The Yankees jumped on him in the fourth round and signed him for $347,500.
Scouting Report: German’s calling card is his high-end fastball. His fastball sat in the low-to-mid 90s and touched as high as 98 with short-season Staten Island, with hard, lateral movement to both sides of the plate. His secondary pitches need some work, but his main offspeed weapon is a slurvy slider in the low 80s. The pitch needs to be tightened, but scouts see the potential for an above-average offering as German continues to develop. His changeup is his third offering and in the very early stages of development. He slows his arm noticeably when he throws it, and also changes his arm slot.
The Future: After spending his pro debut beating up on inferior competition in the short-season Staten Island, German will get his first real challenge in full-season ball in 2019.
