School: South Alabama
Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 21.8
BA Grade: 40/High
Tools: Hit: 45. Power: 30. Run: 60. Field: 55. Arm: 60.
Turner entered the 2024 season with a chance to go inside the first two rounds thanks to his up-the-middle profile, athleticism and excellent zone control. He had a tremendous 2023 sophomore season with South Alabama and then walked more than he struck out in a 33-game stint with Brewster in the Cape Cod League, but had arguably his worst single season as a junior in 2024. Turner slashed .218/.409/.421 with nine home runs and nine doubles, but still showcased excellent on-base skills and walked more than he struck out. His 14% chase rate is one of the lowest in the country and speaks to his ability to spit on pitches out of the zone, but too often Turner got under the baseball this spring and he saw the highest fly ball rate and pop up rate of his career. That’s probably not the best batted ball profile for his skill set, since his power mostly plays down the right field line to the pull side and he’d be better served spraying the ball on a line to all fields. Turner is a strong athlete and plus runner who gets out of the box quickly and should be a threat to steal when he gets on base. He should be an above-average defender in center with a plus throwing arm that rounds out a strong supplemental toolset.
