Carrion arrived at UC Davis as an infielder but converted to pitching after his sophomore year. After struggling with the transition as a junior, he blossomed with more experience as a senior this spring and emerged as one of the Big West Conference’s top relievers. He continued his rise with a strong turn for Orleans in the Cape Cod League after the season. Carrion is a physical 6-foot-3, 205-pound righthander and is a good athlete with growing arm strength. His fastball sits 91-92 and touches 95 mph out of an overhand delivery. His top-down, vertical slider flashes above-average and gives him an out pitch for higher levels. Carrion is still somewhat raw as a pitcher and has below-average control, but that could improve as he gains more experience. He’s an intriguing relief prospect who still has potential upside remaining as he gets more time on the mound.
