DeMartini has been a consistent offensive force in his three years at Virginia Tech, with an OPS over 1.000 in each season. The 6-foot, 197-pound third baseman is a career .311/.435/.642 hitter with the Hokies, with 46 home runs in 165 games and a 23.4% strikeout rate and 16.5% walk rate. DeMartini is a power-over-hit lefthanded batter who employs an extremely steep and uphill swing that leads to plenty of pull-side home runs but also comes with lots of contact questions. He has a 70% overall contact rate for his career, but that figure was lower during his 2024 draft season as he seemingly sacrificed some bat-to-ball for a bit more over-the-fence power. The change led to a career-high 21 home runs but also a career-high 27.7% strikeout rate. There are real questions about how DeMartini’s swing will play in pro ball with a wood bat, and he also had a middling 2022 summer in the Cape Cod League, where he struck out 45 times in 36 games. DeMartini played shortstop in high school but has been a regular third baseman for Virginia Tech. He has the tools to stick at the hot corner and be a fine defender. He’s a fringy runner whose home-to-first times can play down because of a long finish in his swing.
