A 6-foot-1, 180-pound righthander, Long started his career as a catcher at Rice and for his first two seasons was the everyday backstop for the team. He transitioned to a pitcher only role in 2023, where he posted a 4.93 ERA, primarily out of the bullpen, with an 18.9% strikeout rate and 8% walk rate. Long pitched with a 93-94 mph fastball that has been up to 98 and uses a low-80s breaking ball as his go-to secondary offering.
