Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 22.7
Williamson was named to back-to-back All-CAA first teams in 2021 and 2022 with William & Mary, but he went undrafted after his 2022 junior campaign and returned for his senior season. That was great for the program, as Williamson turned in a career-year and was named the CAA player of the year. He hit .390/.513/.662 with 12 home runs, 11 doubles and a 15.2% walk rate and 8.4% strikeout rate. Williamson has always shown impressive zone control for his college career and his overall hitting traits are superlative. He hits the ball hard, with an 89 mph average exit velocity, doesn’t chase much out of the zone and made contact at an 87% rate this spring. Williamson has also developed a strong reputation for his defensive ability at third base. He’s spent some time at shortstop in college, but has the tools for the hot corner, with solid range laterally and on slow-rollowers in front, and solid-average arm strength for the position as well. After the season, Williamson played for Hyannis in the Cape Cod League and looked like one of the best hitters on the circuit in the first few weeks. Williamson turns 23 years old in November, but he makes a well-rounded senior target coming off a career offensive season.

BA Grade: 40/High
Track Record: Williamson flashed solid ability his first three seasons at William & Mary, but went undrafted as a junior due to a lack of strength. He put on 15 pounds of muscle as a senior and set new career highs with a .391 batting average, 12 home runs and a 1.175 OPS to win Colonial Athletic Association player of the year. He followed with a strong showing for Hyannis in the Cape Cod League and was drafted by the Mariners in the second round, No. 57 overall. He signed for a below-slot $600,000.
Scouting Report: Williamson is a disciplined hitter, who expertly manages the strike zone. He has a flat righthanded swing that makes consistent contact and generates hard line drives to all fields. He doesn’t elevate the ball yet, but he hits the ball hard enough to project to be an average hitter with 12-15 home run power. He makes excellent swing decisions and rarely strikes out. Williamson shines brightest on defense. He is a plus defender at third base and can play shortstop if needed. Though he’s just a fringy runner, he has easy, athletic actions in the infield and is gifted at reading hops. He syncs up his hands and feet to be a consistent, reliable defender, who makes all the routine plays. He has above-average arm strength.
The Future: Williamson profiles as a solid everyday third baseman. He’ll open at High-A in 2024.
