Drafted in the 25th round (755th overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2013.
View Draft Report
Holback failed to walk on with Cal Poly as a freshman, spending the year pitching for the school's club team. He made the team as a walk-on in 2012 and has been a key bullpen piece over the last two seasons, showing a good strikeout rate this spring (53-18 K-BB through 46 innings). In high school, Holback owned an 87-88 mph fastball, and it ranges from 88-93 mph now. His velocity can be inconsistent, and his control is fringy, but he has arm strength and a good 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame. He also has good break on his sharp slurve, which rates as an average offering. He's a bullpen guy all the way and could provide value in the back of the top 10 rounds.
