Drafted in the 5th round (139th overall) by the Colorado Rockies in 2013 (signed for $353,900).
View Draft Report
High school pitching was down in Georgia this year, giving scouts more reason to sit on Shouse, who did double duty as Middle Georgia's third baseman and closer. He was an all-conference shortstop and threw two innings as a freshman, and he moved to third base to make it easier for Middle Georgia to use him on the mound. He had tossed 25 innings this spring, with 35 strikeouts. If the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder winds up at Georgia he'll play both ways, but he's a pitcher all the way as a pro. When he's in rhythm he shows two plus pitches: a fastball sitting 93-94 mph and touching higher, and a sharp power curve that hits 81 mph. Shouse has hand speed and arm speed to spare, and while he tires quickly on the mound now, he could take off with more consistent work.
