The Angels had what looks like a very successful draft in 2000, and Hensley could be one of their real sleepers. After leading the junior college Pacific Coast Conference in ERA (2.24) and strikeouts (101 in 88 innings) during the spring, Hensley reached high Class A at the end of his first pro summer. If not for a disastrous start in which he surrendered 11 earned runs, his ERA would have been 1.76. Hensley's top pitch is his changeup, and his 89-93 mph fastball has nice sink. His breaking ball should become at least average. Hensley has size, command and a bulldog mentality. He'll head back to the California League to continue his climb through the system at the start of 2001.
