Draft Prospects
-
Wood is a massive, lanky righthander who stands 6-foot-7, 215 pounds and has a chance to throw 100 mph some day in the future. In high school, Wood has thrown his fastball in the 94-96 mph range at his best, but the velocity has been inconsistent and at times he’ll pitch more in the 88-92 mph range. Wood is inconsistent in more than just pure velocity, as his arm action features an extreme amount of length in the back which creates inconsistencies with his timing, a wandering release point and issues with spinning his breaking balls. Scouts have seen a good curveball, but he’ll need to refine his delivery to hit on the pitch with any consistency and that critique extends to his control as well. There’s a considerable amount of risk with Wood, but some real upside and natural arm talent to get excited about as well. He is a Louisville commit.
