School: Oregon State
Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age at Draft: 21.8
Kmatz was a polished prep pitcher who ranked No. 136 in the 2021 class coming out of high school in New Mexico. He’s delivered on that promise with three solid years as a starter with Oregon State and attacks the zone with confidence and a quality four-pitch mix. Kmatz throws his fastball in the 90-94 mph range, but it has above-average carry and he does a nice job establishing it at the top of the zone. He goes down with a mid-70s curveball with huge depth and finish that looks like an above-average breaking ball. Kmatz also has a harder slider/cutter in the mid 80s and a changeup in the same mid-80s range. While he’s not an elite swing-and-miss pitcher, he’s a savvy strike-thrower who has consistently performed in a starting role and has a deep pitch mix of solid offerings.
