A classic overachiever, Towers would have made his major league debut in 2000 if not for a couple of nagging injuries, including a fall down his stairs at his apartment complex that hurt his shoulder. He's healthy now and will be in the casting call for the big league rotation in the spring. His velocity is nothing special, though he has moved it from the high 80s to the low 90s to establish himself as a legitimate prospect. Towers knows how to go after hitters. He's aggressive in the strike zone, spots his fastball and changes speeds effectively to set up hitters. His command has been great, as his walk numbers show, and it has to be because he has little margin for error. If he sharpens his breaking ball, he won't have to be perfect with every pitch. Because he's in the strike zone so much, he gives up a lot of hits and home runs, which could spell trouble in the big leagues.
