Shippensburg RHP Evan Englebrook, was one half of a strong Division II pitching tandem. The 6-foot-8, 225-pounder went 11-1, 1.78 with 113 strikeouts in 86 innings. With a long, lanky frame, he was a star freestyle swimmer in high school. He has a loose arm and solid delivery, and can run his fastball into the 88-92 mph range. His change is an average pitch and he has a poor feel for his breaking ball.

Taller pitchers sometimes take longer to develop, and that has been the case with Englebrook, an eighth-round pick out of NCAA Division II Shippensburg in 2004. He throws in the mid-90s and tops out at 97 mph. Despite his velocity, he's more of a groundball guy than a strikeout pitcher. Englebrook's fastball is his only above-average pitch. His short slider doesn't miss bats, and he tends to get underneath the ball, causing his stuff to flatten out. He started pitching exclusively out of the stretch midway through 2008, as the Astros shortened up his leg kick to simplify his mechanics and help him repeat his delivery. His height and high three-quarters arm slot give him good downhill angle toward the plate. After missing the last month of the 2008 season with a shoulder injury, he stayed healthy last season. Though he got hammered in the Arizona Fall League, the Astros still believe he could help them in the near future. After winning a spot on the 40-man roster in November, he'll probably open 2010 in Triple-A.
