After missing the 2007 season rehabbing from shoulder surgery, Meszaros posted a 9.63 ERA in seven starts for Charleston as a redshirt junior. Area scout J.D. Alleva pushed for the Astros to draft Meszaros based on what he saw prior to his injury. Houston took him in the 48th round and signed him for $25,000 in July after he performed well in the Cape Cod League. Meszaros commands his fastball to both sides of the plate, sitting at 91-93 mph and touching 94. He throws strikes with an above-average curveball ranging from 75-79 mph with good depth and bite. He mixes in an occasional 81-84 mph changeup, though it's more of a show-me pitch to get hitters off his fastball and breaking ball. Meszaros has a compact, repeatable delivery and throws from a high three-quarters to overhand slot. He learned to mix his offspeed offerings better upon his promotion to Double-A last May. Durability is a concern given his injury history, though it's not a major issue in the bullpen. Meszaros doesn't have a high ceiling, but he figures to fit into the Astros' bullpen picture, possibly sometime this year.
