Miller was primarily an outfielder in college, first at Rutgers, then New Orleans. The Pirates drafted him as a pitcher and immediately converted him into a short reliever. Miller's greatest attribute as a reliever is his aggressiveness. He has no fear of any situation and attacks hitters. His fastball is in the 90-92 mph range, but he consistently throws it for strikes and works both sides of the plate with it. He also has a good slider with a quick, late break. Miller lacks the experience of most pitchers his age because of his college background and because he was used in relief in pro ball. He doesn't have a good feel for a changeup, though that is not a major factor with him working out of the bullpen. Miller had a fine Arizona Fall League after spending the second half of last season as a closer in Double-A. He will likely share closing duties with veteran Mark Corey in Triple-A this season and has a good chance of making his major league debut later in the year.
