This year’s college shortstop class is a strong one and the top five players on this list have first-round potential.

New Mexico State’s Nick Gonzales is new to the position after playing second base throughout his career before moving to shortstop this spring. But thanks to his pure hitting ability that has him as a potential top-five pick, he heads this list.

This list is based on draft status and was composed of players who are expected to play most of their games this season at shortstop, regardless of where they project to play as pros.
