A college second baseman was drafted in the top 10 picks in both 2017 (Keston Hiura) and 2018 (Nick Madrigal) and last year’s crop produced a first rounder in Michael Busch, though he was primarily a first baseman/outfielder in college.

The most likely player in this year’s draft class to extend that streak of first-round second baseman is New Mexico State’s Nick Gonzales, who was a unanimous first-team Preseason All-America selection by MLB scouting directors. But he is this spring playing shortstop for the Aggies, meaning he doesn’t appear on this list, which is limited to players who are seeing regular time at second base this spring, regardless of where they project as pros.

That leaves Mississippi State Justin Foscue as the top prospect at the position thanks in large part to his dynamic his offensive ability.
