Jordan Walker, OF, Cardinals—Walker extended his hitting streak to 10 games Monday after going 1-for-4 with a single in the Cardinals’ 7-4 loss to the Rockies. Walker extended his streak with a two-out single up the middle off lefthanded reliever Brent Suter in the seventh inning. With the knock, Walker surpassed Ted Williams to move all alone into second place for the longest hitting streak by a player under 21 years old to begin his career. Former outfielder Eddie Murphy holds the record with a 12-game hitting streak to start his career for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1912.
Ezequiel Tovar, SS, Rockies—Tovar went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored to lead the Rockies past the Cardinals. He doubled in the third inning to help facilitate the Rockies’ first run and added an RBI double down the left-field line in the sixth to extend the Rockies’ lead. After going 2-for-15 with six strikeouts to begin the season, Tovar has recorded at least one hit in five of his last six games.
Spencer Steer, 3B, Reds—Steer went 2-for-4 with a double and singled home the tying run in the top of the ninth inning to cap a late Reds rally and force extra innings against the Braves. The 25-year-old infielder has five extra-base hits in his first nine games to start the season, second-most on the team. The Reds fell in extra innings, 5-4, on Sean Murphy’s walkoff two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th.
