Baseball America Prospect Report — July 27, 2021

Keibert Ruiz, C, Triple-A Oklahoma City (Dodgers) — Ruiz is on a roll. Ruiz extended his hitting streak to 10 games with three hits on Monday including a double. Ruiz also has extra-base hits in each of his past four games. In July Ruiz is hitting .370/.426/.716.

Jo Adell, OF, Triple-A Salt Lake (Angels) — Adell hit his 20th home run of the season as part of a 2-for-4 night. Adell moved back into a tie with Taylor Motter for the most home runs by any Triple-A hitter.

Seth Beer, 1B, Triple-A Reno (D-Backs) — Beer hit his ninth home run of the season on Monday. It’s been an up-and-down season for the D-Backs’ slugger. While his slash line looks very solid (.276/.380/.490) when you account for the boost Reno provides to a hitter’s stats, it’s not so impressive. Beer’s actually been a roughly average hitter for Reno this year as the team’s slash line as a team is .280/.371/.507.

Andry Lara, RHP, FCL Nationals — Lara, one of the Nationals’ best prospects, allowed no runs in five innings of work, striking out seven for the Florida Complex League Nationals. This was the second time in five appearances that Lara has worked five scoreless innings.

Blaze Jordan, 3B, FCL Red Sox — Jordan went 3-for-3 with his third home run of the season with the FCL Red Sox.

Greg Deichmann, OF, Triple-A Las Vegas (Athletics) — Deichmann went 1-for-3 with a double and his 50th walk of the season, which represents a career best already. The 26-year-old outfielder’s spike in walk rate is a notable development this year. But more notably, Deichmann was traded midway through last night’s game, one of two prospects headed to the Cubs in exchange for LHP Andrew Chafin. You can read our full analysis of that deal here

Chris Rodriguez, RHP, Triple-A Salt Lake (Angels) — It’s been an interesting year for Rodriguez. He began the year as the Angels’ top-ranked pitching prospect (he’s been overtaken by Reid Detmers in that regard) and pitched out of the big league bullpen effectively over the first month of the season until shoulder inflammation shut him down for all of May. Injuries are nothing new for Rodriguez, who missed time in 2018 and 2019 with back issues. Despite those injury woes, the Angels opted to stretch him back out as a starter upon his return from the injured list, and last night he made his first start for Triple-A Salt Lake since being promoted from Double-A. It was a mixed outing — Rodriguez allowed four runs and walked four over four innings — but the Angels now have Rodriguez and Detmers waiting at Triple-A as pitching depth. Should they decide to sell this week (they’re five games back of the second wild card spot) and potentially part with Andrew Heaney or Dylan Bundy, two interesting replacement options appear close to ready.
