Frontier League Names Jon Danos As New CEO
The Frontier League has named Jon Danos as the league’s new chief executive officer. Danos’ hire comes after Frontier League commissioner Bill Lee retired during the offseason.
Danos comes to the Frontier League with 25 years of experience in baseball and athletics administration. He spent 10 years as assistant general manager and eventually general manager of the affiliated Bowie Baysox.
From 2003 to 2014, he was president and chief operating officer of Opening Day Partners, which owned five independent Atlantic League teams—Camden, Southern Maryland, York, Lancaster and Sugar Land. During that time Danos also served on the Atlantic League board of directors.
Since 2014, Danos has been the executive director of athletics at his alma mater of New Hampshire.
In the release announcing his hiring, Danos’ role is described as to “oversee the League’s strategy development and business affairs.”
The Frontier League is getting ready to begin its first year as a Partner League with ties to Major League Baseball. It has operated as an independent league since 1993. It, along with the now-defunct Northern League, was one of the first two independent leagues that began the indy ball boom of the 1990s and 2000s.
“I am truly honored and extremely excited to join the Frontier League,” Danos stated. “The opportunity to help evolve the League and shape our new partnership with Major League Baseball is special. The foundation of the Frontier League – its role in the journey of professional baseball players and its value to the communities in which we serve – is incredibly strong and well-positioned for an exciting future. I look forward to working in our communities with owners, team staffs and players to help fuel our growth in support of this great game.”
In the press release, Frontier League board of directors president John Stanley said that Danos was selected from among over 100 applicants.
