The series previewed in length for this weekend are:
- Mississippi State traveling to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt. Both are coming off of impressive results a week ago. The Bulldogs continued their dominance of rival Mississippi, while the Commodores took two of three on the road against Tennessee. For MSU to pull out this series on the road, it will take getting better starting pitching than what it got last weekend against Ole Miss and its offense will have to strike quickly against a Vanderbilt pitching staff that doesn’t allow very many lengthy rallies.
- South Carolina hosting top-ranked Arkansas. Arkansas has proved time and time again that it is very deserving of being the No. 1 team in the country and this series will provide another such opportunity. A key for South Carolina is its offense getting going early in the series to knock the Arkansas pitching staff back on its heels.
- Old Dominion hitting the road to take on Charlotte to begin what will end up as an eight-game home-and-home series between the two Conference USA contenders. A ton is on the line in this series. Both teams are safely in the field of 64 right now, but with a statement series win, either team could find itself in the hosting discussion a week from now when the teams will be preparing to do battle again. Both teams boast deep lineups and quality pitching staffs.
- Bryant and Central Connecticut State facing off in New Britain. So far, Bryant has dominated the NEC this season, as it so often has, but CCSU is right there in the mix, and a series win at home this weekend would go a long way toward changing the nature of the race down the stretch.
Note that this podcast typically previews five total series, but this one contains four previews. Originally, the series between Louisville and Pittsburgh was previewed, but that series has since been called off due to Covid-19 issues within the Pittsburgh program.
