Spring Training MLB Prospect Report—March 24, 2021
Baltimore Orioles
—No. 1 prospect Adley Rutschman collected a double against the Rays. The 2019 No. 1 overall pick has four hits this spring, three of them doubles, and has driven in one run.
—No. 7 prospect Yusniel Diaz tripled in his only at-bat, raising his average to .280 this spring. The 24-year-old outfielder will likely start the season at Triple-A, with a possible promotion to the big leagues later in the summer.
Chicago White Sox
—No. 4 prospect Garrett Crochet allowed just his second run of the spring in an inning of work against the Cubs. The 2020 first-rounder from Tennessee allowed a run on two hits and struck out one. Crochet has struck out seven and walked two in seven innings.
Detroit Tigers
—No. 2 prospect Tarik Skubal turned in his longest performance of the spring but struggled against the Yankees. The 24-year-old lefthander allowed two runs on five hits and five walks and struck out three. Skubal has issued eight walks in his last two starts, spanning seven innings.
Los Angeles Dodgers
—No. 11 prospect Zach McKinstry collected two hits in three at-bats, drove in a run and scored a run against the Brewers. The 25-year-old is the team’s primary utilityman after Enrique Hernandez signed with the Red Sox.
St. Louis Cardinals
—No. 15 prospect Justin Williams doubled and later scored in his lone at-bat against the Nationals. The 25-year-old outfielder this spring is hitting .259/.333/.407 with a home run and two RBIs.
San Diego Padres
—No. 8 prospect Tucupita Marcano drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning against the Reds, plating two with a double. The 21-year-old utilityman has impressed this spring, with 14 hits in 30 at-bats (.467), a home run and eight RBIs.
Toronto Blue Jays
—No. 21 prospect Santiago Espinal collected two hits in four at-bats, scored once and drove in a run against the Phillies. The 26-year-old middle infielder hit .267 in 60 at-bats with the Blue Jays in his debut in 2020.
