They begin by breaking down the marquee series between Florida and Miami. The Gators came into the weekend as heavy favorites in a rivalry series that they’ve dominated of late, but it was the Hurricanes that came out on top for the first time since 2014 and for the first time in Gainesville since 2009.
That series lived up to advance billing in terms of drama, as Miami won game 2 of the series in extra innings and then had to stave off a furious Florida rally in the finale, but it was not necessarily a masterpiece on the baseball diamond, with both teams enduring their fair share of struggles in the bullpen and defensively. Teddy and Joe break down what put UM over the top in the end and the uncharacteristically sloppy play from UF.
They also touch on the State Farm College Baseball Showdown, taking place in Arlington. After going 2-0 in its first two games, led by outstanding work out of its bullpen, Mississippi is now the No. 1 team in the rankings. Arkansas is also 2-0 in Arlington, which pushed them up the rankings in a big way as well. Teddy and Joe talk about why those two teams are undefeated and touch on the rest of the teams taking part in that tournament.
Other notable results discussed include San Francisco’s upset series win over UCLA, the general wackiness of the results on the west coast, Florida Atlantic putting up runs in bunches to win a series over Central Florida, Louisiana and Tulane playing perhaps the most tightly-contested series of the weekend and the sheer number of high run totals that we saw even in a limited slate of games.
