Peter Woodfork Named MLB’s Senior VP Of Minor League Operations

Major League Baseball announced that Peter Woodfork has been named MLB’s Senior Vice President, Minor League Operations and Development.

Woodfork had previously been MLB’s Senior Vice President, On-Field Operations. His new role means he will oversee the operations of both the affiliated minor leagues as well as MLB’s relationship with its partner leagues (such as the American Association, Atlantic League and Frontier League).

Woodfork’s role will be as the day-to-day head of all of MLB’s operations of the minors. According to MLB’s press release announcing the move, Woodfork will be the “primary point person for affiliated teams on all issues related to governance, scheduling, umpiring, license compliance, and other league administration functions.”

Major League Baseball is taking over all of the operations aspects of MiLB that had previously been done by MiLB’s offices in St. Petersburg, Fla. as well as the work done by the various league presidents. Woodfork will be the one in charge of the multitude of responsibilities taken over by MLB.

Woodfork has been mentioned on multiple occasions as a potential MLB general manager candidate. Woodfork has worked at Major League Baseball since 2011. Before that, he was an assistant general manager for the Diamondbacks (2005-2010) and director of baseball operations for the Red Sox (2003-2005).
