Atlanta Braves
—Righthander Ian Anderson was bitten by some bad defense, but otherwise was excellent in a rain-delayed game against the Marlins. The Braves’ top pitching prospect allowed three runs (none earned) over 5.2 innings before handing the ball to A.J. Minter. He struck out six and walked nobody, bringing his season totals to 41 strikeouts against 14 walks.
Baltimore Orioles
—Ryan Mountcastle added another hit to his ledger on Thursday night, bringing his line for September to .321/.367/.469 with three homers and 18 RBIs.
Boston Red Sox
—Bobby Dalbec went 1-for-2 with a walk in the Red Sox’s loss to the Orioles on Thursday. Of his 19 hits, just nine are for singles. The remaining 10 are broken down into three doubles and seven home runs.
Colorado Rockies
—Josh Fuentes ended a two-game hitless skid with a 2-for-5 effort in the team’s extra-innings win over the Giants. The 27-year-old is hitting .321 with two home runs and 15 RBIs in 84 at-bats.
Detroit Tigers
—Willi Castro hit his sixth home run, a two-run shot, and added two more hits, scored three times and drove in three runs in the team’s loss to the Royals. The 23-year-old shortstop/third baseman has been one of the best rookies in baseball, with a .350/.383/.561 slash line, six home runs and 23 RBIs in 34 games.
Houston Astros
—No. 8 prospect Cristian Javier earned his fifth win of the season, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six. The 23-year-old righthander is 5-2, 3.48 with 54 strikeouts and 18 walks in 54.1 innings.
Kansas City Royals
—No. 10 prospect Kris Bubic allowed four runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out five in 4.2 innings in his last start of the season. The 23-year-old lefthander showed glimpses of promise in his rookie campaign, and finished 1-6, 4.32 with 49 strikeouts and 22 walks in 50 innings.
New York Mets
—Lefty David Peterson finished his rookie season on a strong note, spinning seven innings of one-run ball against the Nationals on Thursday. He struck out four and allowed four hits and a walk. In 49.2 innings, Peterson, the Mets’ first-round pick from 2017, finished 6-2, 3.44 with 40 strikeouts against 24 walks.
Oakland Athletics
—Sean Murphy hit his seventh home run, a solo shot, in the team’s loss to the Dodgers. The 2016 third-rounder from Wright State is hitting .234 with 14 RBIs.
Pittsburgh Pirates
—No. 2 prospect Ke’Bryan Hayes collected a hit in a fifth consecutive game, going 1-for-4 with a run in the team’s win over the Cubs. The 23-year-old third baseman has a .998 OPS through 21 big league games.
San Francisco Giants
—No. 2 prospect Joey Bart singled and later scored on a wild pitch in the team’s extra-innings loss to the Rockies. Bart’s effort raised his average to .247 in 93 at-bats.
—One night after hitting a three-run home run, Mauricio Dubon collected a double in five at-bats. The 25-year-old is having a strong month of September, with a .292 average, two home runs and 11 RBIs in 65 at-bats.
St. Louis Cardinals
—Kwang-Hyun Kim had another strong outing in his final regular season start of 2020, allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out three in five innings to earn the win. The 32-year-old lefty finished the season 3-0, 1.62 over eight appearances (seven starts) with 24 strikeouts and 12 walks in 39 innings.
—Dylan Carlson crushed a home run, added a double and drove in three runs. The 21-year-old outfielder is up to three home runs and 14 RBIs with a .202 average in 99 at-bats.
Texas Rangers
—No. 3 prospect Leody Taveras turned in his second consecutive multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a double, single and run scored in the team’s loss to the Rangers. The 22-year-old outfielder is hitting .221 in 104 at-batts.
Toronto Blue Jays
—Alejandro Kirk continued the strong beginning to his big league career by adding a two-run double that gave Toronto a late cushion in a win over the Yankees. The victory clinched a spot in the playoffs for the Blue Jays, who hadn’t been to the postseason since 2016. His double, off a slider from Adam Ottavino, had an exit velocity of 107.3 mph.
Washington Nationals
—Righthander Kyle Finnegan pitched a scoreless eighth inning and struck out two in Washington’s loss to the Mets. For the season, the 29-year-old sixth-rounder from 2013 has whiffed 27 in 24.2 innings.
