NOTABLE INCLUSIONS
The rebuilding Marlins included their top nine prospects and 14 of their top 16 overall on their initial player pool. RHP Sixto Sanchez (No. 1 prospect), OF Jesus Sanchez (No. 3), RHP Edward Cabrera (No. 4), SS Jazz Chisholm (No. 5) and OF Monte Harrison (No. 6) are not there for solely developmental reasons. All could conceivably make their major league debuts this season.
NOTABLE EXCLUSIONS
The only two of the Marlins’ top 16 prospects not to make their initial player pool were outfielders Connor Scott and Victor Victor Mesa. Scott, the Marlins’ first-round pick in 2018, hit .248/.310/.359 at the Class A levels last year. Mesa, a touted Cuban signing, hit .235/.274/.263 in his U.S. debut last year and struggled to hit for any impact in the Arizona Fall League after the season.
PARTING THOUGHTS
The Marlins are building for the future and reflected that with their prospect-heavy approach to their 60-man player pool. While many of them will remain at the alternate training site strictly for development purposes, it won’t be any surprise to see a group of others use it as a springboard to make their major league debuts this season.
