Miami To Host 2021 World Baseball Classic Finals
Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that Marlins Park in Miami will host the semifinals and finals of the 2021 World Baseball Classic.
The 2021 WBC will run from March 9-23 and feature 20 teams, an increase from 16 teams in previous editions. First-round games will be played at Taoyuan International Baseball Stadium in Taoyuan, Taiwan, Taichung Intercontinental Stadium in Taichung, Taiwan, the Tokyo Dome in Japan, Chase Field in Phoenix and Marlins Park in Miami.
The quarterfinals will be played in Tokyo and Miami, and the semifinals and finals will take place from March 21-23 at Marlins Park.
It is the first time the WBC finals will be held on the East Coast. Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles hosted in 2009 and 2017, Petco Park in San Diego hosted in 2006 and AT&T Park in San Francisco hosted in 2013.
The 16 teams that participated in the 2017 WBC — Australia, Canada, China, Taiwan, Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Korea, Mexico, Puerto Rico, United States, and Venezuela — all received invitations to return for the 2021 WBC.
They will be joined by four teams who advance from a qualifier being played in Tucson from March 13-25. Brazil, France, Germany, Nicaragua, Pakistan, South Africa, Czech Republic, Great Britain, New Zealand, Panama, Philippines and Spain make up the 12-team qualifier field.
