Zac Gallen, RHP, Marlins
Rank: 87
Preseason: NR
STOCK is headed: up ??
Gallen has posted gaudy numbers in the Pacific Coast League for Triple-A New Orleans. The 23-year-old went 8-1, 1.57 through his first 13 starts in the hitter’s circuit, striking out 104 and walking 16 in 86 innings. Gallen had four double-digit strikeout games and had allowed more than two earned runs in a start only once.
Gallen shows command of all of his pitches. He throws a two-seam and four-seam fastball, topping out at 94 mph. He also throws a slider with good depth and a cutter, both of which are above-average. Gallen has been throwing his changeup more often and shows a feel for it, which enhances his overall repertoire.
The ability to execute and throw strikes has vaulted Gallen up the Marlins’ prospect list, and his pitchability should allow him to remain in the majors as a starter.
