An excellent summer in the Cape Cod League rocketed Deeg into top five round consideration. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound lefty was second in the league in strikeouts (46 in 48 innings) while showing excellent feel and solid stuff with an 88-91 mph fastball. Pumped up in a season debut in front of a sellout crowd, Deeg was 90-93 mph against Arkansas. It was too much of a good thing as he started overthrowing and lost his command. Deeg's final two months were much better as he got back to focusing on command and using both sides of the plate. His changeup is an above-average offering, but as the season wore on, his fastball velocity backed up to 85-88 mph. Even with great downward plane, that's a below-average fastball. His curveball almost disappeared this year and will have to be brought back at some point in the future. A team who liked what the saw from Deeg last summer may still pay him top 10 round money, but with his reduced velocity, he has a good chance to end up back at Central Michigan.
